Creighton Bluejays Top Host Illinois State, 3-1

The Creighton Bluejays picked up their second-ever Missouri Valley Conference Tournament win in the opening match of the 2006 State Farm MVC Tournament as they topped host Illinois State, 3-1. Games scores in favor of Creighton
Creighton was outstanding on the front line in game one, recording 10 block assists and one solo route to a 30-15 decision in the opening game of the 2006 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Championship.
The Bluejays held the host Redbirds to an -.057 attack percentage (8-10-35).
Kelly Goc hammered down 8 game-two kills as the Bluejays took a two game lead over Illinois State. Game two was more solid team defense from Creighton as they dug 22 balls and added six more block assists and two solos to push the team total to 11.
All-MVC player M.C. Richmond led the Redbirds in game three with 9 kills as Illinois State hit on the positive side for the first time in the match and claimed a nip and tuck game three, 35-33.
The Redbirds registered 34 digs in game three and Lindley McDavid added 8 kills in game three for ISU.
Kelly Goc led all players with 22 kills and added nine digs for the Bluejays.
Korie Lebeda tallied 49 assists for CU.
CU's previous MVC Tournament win was in 1997, also at Redbird Arena, over Indiana State.
