Three Redbirds Earn Valley Scholar-Athlete First Team

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State seniors Tabitha Visk and Kristin Stauter and sophomore Shannon McGlaughlin were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team, as announced by the league office Tuesday. McGlaughlin was also named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Second-Team. Individuals are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and recognized as the nations top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Visk has appeared in 16 Redbird conference matches, starting eight of them. She stands second on the team in hitting percentage (.232) and blocks (87). Visk currently ranks 15th in career blocks and 17st in career solo blocks in ISU history. She has recorded a hitting percentage of above .350 in 10 matches and double-digit kills in five appearances. Visk marked a season-high 15 kills and .500 hitting percentage against Western Illinois on Sept. 7. She has a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average (GPC) in family and consumer science. Visk earned first-team recognition for the third-consecutive year and is the 10th Redbird to be a first-team honoree in multiple years.

Stauter has started all 18 Valley matches this season. She ranks first on the team in set-assists (1,069) and service aces (21). Stauter also ranks second in digs (303) and third in total blocks (55). She currently ranks second in assists percentage and seventh in assists and assists per set in Illinois State history. Stauter was named to the SkyHawk Invitational All-Tournament team and has complied 17 double-doubles this season. A physical education major, she has a 3.83 cumulative GPA .

McGlaughlin ranks first on the team in kills (402), kills per set (3.47) and points (438.5) and has start in all 18 MVC match-ups. She marked a career-high 22 kills and season-high 23 points against Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 2. McGlaughlin ranks second in the Valley in kills per set, and has compiled 10 double-doubles this season. She has compiled double-digit kills in all but four matches and notched hitting percentages of above .250 in 11 appearances. Named the Skyhawk Invitational MVP and Wolverine Invitational All-Tournament Team, the english education major holds a 4.0 cumulative GPA.



Forty-five student-athletes were nominated for the ValleyÂÂĀfs scholar-athlete team. The criterion for the honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.
