Redbirds Head Out for Last Conference Road Match-Ups

NORMAL, Ill. -The Illinois State (14-9, 8-5 MVC) volleyball team will hit the road to for the last time to face Drake (4-21, 3-11 MVC) and Creighton (22-3, 13-1 MVC) in Missouri Valley Conference regular-season play. ISU will take on Drake Friday at 7 p.m., and will play Creighton Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Redbirds split last week, falling in five-sets to Missouri State, but bounced back the following night to defeat Wichita State in four-sets, for the first time in nine matches and four season series. Jenny Menendez controlled the backcourt for Illinois State and recorded 58 digs and averaging 6.44 digs per set against two opponents. Menendez earned MVC Defensive Player of the Week honors and has compiled 20-plus digs in eight matches this season, and she has recorded 30-plus digs in two performances. The team also recorded a season-high 17 blocks in its five-set loss against Missouri State (11/2) and LeighAnn Hranka added a career-high 10 block assists and two solo blocks. The Redbirds have posted 10-plus blocks in 10 matches this season.

Drake enters the weekend after receiving two losses against Northern Iowa and Bradley last weekend. The Bulldogs have been producing defensively and are led by libero Sarah Madden, tallying 520 digs this season. She currently leads the Valley in digs per set (5.84) and is ranked eighth in the nation. Drake will conclude its 2012 season on the road with matches against Missouri State and Wichita State, Nov. 16-17.

Creighton holds the first-place spot in the Valley and is in pursuit of its first MVC title in program history. The team captured two wins last weekend against UNI and Bradley and snapped Northern Iowa's 34-match home win streak Saturday night. Megan Bober continues to lead CU and posted two consecutive triple-doubles last weekend. Bober was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week and selected MVC Scholar-Athletes of the Week. The Bluejays have set a school record with 10-straight wins.
