Injury Report: Seyller Sidelined for Remainder of Season
Oct. 16, 2008
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State junior middle blocker Katie Seyller, who has yet to play in the 2008 campaign while recovering from a right shoulder injury, will undergo a third surgical procedure next Thursday (Oct. 23) and be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Seyller underwent surgery Feb. 20, 2008, to repair a torn labrum in her right shoulder. The shoulder was then scoped in mid-September, and a minor labral defect was discovered. A third surgery is scheduled to repair the defect.
"We are disappointed to hear the news that Katie's (Seyller) season is officially over. She is one of the returning players that was expected to contribute this season, but injuries are aspects that we can't always control," said head coach Melissa Myers. "The important thing for Katie is to get her shoulder healthy, so she can come back full strength in 2009. I admire the effort she has put forth to try to get back this season, but this is the best decision for Katie's health and for the 2009 team."
Seyller was slated to be the Redbirds' most experienced returning middle hitter this season, but has not dressed for any matches. The Bloomington, Ill., native was a 2006 Missouri Valley Conference All-Newcomer Team selection, and started 21 of the 23 matches she played in last season.
