NORMAL, Ill. - Following the Illinois State volleyball team's key conference victories over Wichita State and Missouri State this past weekend, junior setter Kaitlyn Early has been named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday.

Over the weekend, Early collected 92 assists and 11 kills while amassing a .346 attack percentage. The Wildwood, Mo., native also added 22 digs and three block assists defensively.

Against the Shockers, Early paced the Redbirds offense, collecting 46 assists, four kills, seven digs and a block assist. The junior setter hit .300 for ISU, finishing second on the team in offensive efficiency for the match. Early's command of the offense helped catapult three Redbird players into double-digit kills, as ISU outhit the potent Shocker offense, .200 to .127 in attack percentage.

In the second match of the weekend for ISU, Early added another 46 assists, while knocking a career-high seven kills on a .375 attack percentage against the Bears. Defensively, Early aided the back row by adding 15 digs along with two block assists. Early's dig total tied her second-most on the season.

On the year, Early has amassed 717 assists while averaging 10.50 assists per set. She has added 62 kills while hitting .256, more than twice the efficiency she had during the 2012 season (.120). Early has been a cornerstone in the Redbird's success this year, as ISU currently holds the top spot in the MVC (14-4, 7-0). In her second full season as the team's starting setter, Early has helped increase the team's offensive attack percentage from .190 (2012) to .232 (2013).

The Redbirds are back on the road this weekend, as the team will face Northern Iowa Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. (CT) in Cedar Falls, Iowa, followed by Drake Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. (CT) in Des Moines, Iowa.
