Sept. 27, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State's volleyball team will look to avoid its first three-match losing streak of the 2007 season, and improve upon its undefeated road record, when the Redbirds visit Missouri Valley Conference foes Creighton (Sept. 28) and Drake (Sept. 29) this weekend. Both matches are set at 7 p.m.

Illinois State (10-5, 2-2 MVC) is coming off last weekend's back-to-back home losses to Wichita State and Missouri State. The Shockers handed the Redbirds their third sweep (21-30, 26-30 and 28-30) of the season Friday, and the Bears outlasted ISU in an evenly matched, four-game decision (30-32, 26-30, 30-21 and 27-30) Saturday night.

Creighton (9-5, 3-0 MVC) has collected three Valley road wins to start out the league campaign. The Bluejays outlasted Drake Sept. 11, overcame a 0-2 deficit to post a five-game win over Northern Iowa (Sept. 21) and swept Bradley Saturday night in Peoria.

Drake's (4-10, 1-2 MVC) lone conference win was a five-game decision at Bradley Friday night. The Bulldogs took one game at Northern Iowa Saturday before falling in a four-game decision.

Despite ISU's commanding 23-6 all-time lead against the Bluejays, Creighton has had the recent upper hand in the series with the Redbirds, claiming three-consecutive wins via four-game decisions. Along with sweeping the 2006 regular-season series, the Bluejays also eliminated the Redbirds from last season's State Farm MVC Tournament at Redbird Arena.

Illinois State owns a dominating 44-5 all-time record against Drake, including a stretch of 21-consecutive victories. Last season, the Redbirds overcame a 0-1 deficit to post a four-game (22-30, 31-29, 30-19 and 30-23) win at Redbird Arena, and swept the Bulldogs (30-22, 30-18 and 30-19) in Des Moines.

Illinois State has fared much better on the road this season than it has at the confines of Redbird Arena. The Redbirds are a perfect 5-0 away from Normal, but are just 3-4 at home. ISU has captured road wins over Northern Illinois (Aug. 28), Alabama (Sept. 1), Ball State (Sept. 8), Southern Illinois (Sept. 14) and Evansville (Sept. 15). The `Birds are 2-1 in matches played at a neutral site.
