Sept. 24, 2013
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Following a short break at home for two conference matches, the Illinois State volleyball team (9-3, 2-0) will return to the road as they travel north to Milwaukee, Wis., for a mid-week non-conference matchup against Marquette (6-4).
After finishing their preseason schedule with a 7-3 record, the Redbirds defeated Evansville (5-8, 0-2) and Southern Illinois (6-8, 1-1) in straight-set sweeps to begin conference play at home. The Redbirds are currently led by Ashley Rosch with 132 kills, while first-year libero Emily Orrick has paced the defense, collecting 171 digs.
The Golden Eagles head into their final non-conference match before beginning Big East play following a straight-set sweep over Milwaukee Sunday. The Marquette volleyball team is led by Autumn Bailey with 145 kills on the season, averaging 4.03 kills per set. Just the second time in program history that the Redbirds will face the Golden Eagles, ISU was victorious over MU Sept. 18, 2001 in their only match to date, 3-1.
Following the match, the Redbirds will return home to host Indiana State Friday, Sept. 27, as Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) action will continue at Redbird Arena. Fans will be admitted to the match for free with a printable coupon, available online.
