Sept. 14, 2009
Illinois State and SIU Edwardsville met for the first time ever in 2008, a 3-1 Redbird victory (25-21, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16) in Edwardsville, Ill. Mallory Leggett led the Redbirds with 20 kills and 16 digs, accounting for 21.5 of the Redbirds' 73.0 points.
Mollerus Digs It
Senior libero Kasey Mollerus has been a fixture on the Illinois State back line for the past three years. Mollerus is a defensive wiz, digging out balls like she was born to do it. She has three of the top-10 ISU single-season dig records, including a school-record 586 as a sophomore. Mollerus' dig-proficiency has put her in second place all-time in digs as a Redbird with 1,759. She surpassed the 1,700 digs mark at the Bronco Invitational and needs less than 100 digs to surpass Chris Rehor-Federico (1,806) as the ISU all-time leader. Mollerus is currently the ISU leader in digs per set (4.64).
Junior Mallory Leggett and sophomore Tabitha Visk have been the catalysts of the Redbird offense so far in 2009. Visk, who had no double-digit kill efforts her freshman season, has amassed double-digits in five matches this season, including a career-high 16 against Wake Forest. Leggett was named to the all-tournament team in all three tournaments this season and leads the team in kills (113) and service aces (18).
