ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Illinois State volleyball team was picked fourth in the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office Wednesday.

Wichita State, coming off a season in which it finished third in the regular season conference standings and second the in conference tournament, was the majority pick to finish atop the conference standings after advancing to the NCAA Regionals last year. Northern Iowa was picked second, followed closely by Missouri State.

"Our focus this preseason has been to take a step forward as a program," head coach Melissa Myers said. "We return a large core of our team and it's visible that they've done great things in the offseason to prepare physically. Practices have been intense and highly competitive. Our goal is to get a little sharper and more consistent every day. We expect this to continue throughout the season as we improve and prepare for the highly competitive MVC schedule."

Sophomore Ashley Rosch, the reigning MVC Freshman of the Year, was selected as one of six players on the preseason all-conference roster. The outside hitter led the team last season in kills (336), kills per set (3.08), and points (387.5).

The Redbirds return 10 letterwinners from a year ago, after finishing the 2012 season with an 18-12 record and an 11-7 mark in conference play. They will begin the 2013 season on Aug. 30, in Indianapolis, Ind., at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Tournament against host IUPUI.
