2012 Volleyball Season is Underway

NORMAL, Ill. - The Redbird volleyball team stepped onto the court Wednesday morning for its first practice of preseason camp. With three returning All-Missouri Valley Conference team selections and an experienced fountain of youth, including 10 sophomores and juniors that all saw court time in the 2011 season.

Under the helm of fifth-year head coach Melissa Myers, the volleyball program finished the 2011 season with an 18-14 overall record and a 9-9 conference mark. The Redbirds finished fifth in the MVC regular-season conference standings and advanced to the semi-finals in the 2011 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Illinois State will get a chance to put together their efforts in the gym at the annual Red/White Scrimmage preceding the Redbird Fan Fair. The scrimmage will take place August 18 at 12:30 p.m., in Redbird Arena.

Before entering another tough 2012 Valley season, the Redbirds will play in three additional non-conference tournaments and will kick off the season at the Ball State Tournament, Aug. 24-25. The Redbirds begin conference play on the road September 14th and 15th against Evansville and Southern Illinois before returning to Redbird Arena for its first home match against reigning MVC champion Northern Iowa, Sept. 21.
