Rosch Earns MVP at High Performance Championships
July 30, 2013
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State sophomore outside hitter Ashley Rosch was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the all-tournament team while competing for the women's junior A1 national team at the High Performance Championships last week in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Rosch was one of 154 women selected in her age group to participate in the women's junior international division. Her team, coached by former United States Olympian Rod Wilde, compiled a 7-1 record en route to finishing first place in the tournament.
"It was a really good experience to be able to play with different players from around the country," Rosch said. "We played some really great teams and it was nice to be back in high intensity matches. It helped me develop as a player by being able to compete alongside some great athletes who all approach the game differently."
The tournament featured teams from the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Chile.
The Fox River Grove, Ill., native finished first on the team in points (387), kills (336), and kills per set (3.08) in 2012. She was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year as well as being a first team all-conference selection.
The Redbirds will begin their season Aug. 30 in Indianapolis, Ind., at the IUPUI tournament.
