NORMAL, Ill.- The Illinois State volleyball team conducted a food drive Sunday, April 21, on behalf of the Clare House. The Redbirds hosted the food drive at four different locations, including Jewel Osco and Schnucks at both Bloomington and Normal store locations.

The Clare House of Bloomington has weekly food pantry and soup kitchen hours and always welcome donations of non-perishable items. They provided the team with a list of perishable items that were needed, which the group focused on during the collection. Outside hitter Stacey Niao was grateful for the opportunity to help the community.

"It was awesome to give some of our time and find a way to give back to the community,” Niao said. “The act of giving back to make a difference in someone else’s life, who less fortunate, helps us learn to understand and appreciate the basic things in life. We met some very giving people in the community who helped us, help others."

The food drive was a huge success and took three vehicles for the players to transfer all of the donated canned and perishable food to the Clare House. The team would like to thank all of those who donated, as well as the local grocery stores who participated.
