April 18, 2013

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State volleyball team welcomes two new Redbirds to the roster as announced Thursday by head coach Melissa Myers. Lawrence North High School middle hitter Annchara Montgomery, has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her career at Illinois State, while defensive specialist Emily Orrick joined the squad in January.

Montgomery is a native of Indianapolis, Ind., and was named the 2012 team co-defensive player of the year and ranked fourth in the state with 141 total blocks during the 2012 season. Montgomery has garnered numerous accolades, including all-county honorable mention and all-conference honorable mention in 2012. She is a member of Club Vision Indy 18 Elite and is coached by former Ball State head coach Randy Litchfield.

"We're excited to welcome Annchara to our program," Myers said. "She is athletic and has a high ceiling and great work ethic. Her block will impact our defensive system and make our gym more competitive. We look forward to working with her as she continues to develop as a player."

Orrick has spent the last two seasons at Lincoln Land Community College and was named the 2011 Mid-West Player of the Year. With a stacked on-court resume, Orrick is a two-time Mid-West First-Team All-Conference selection, a two-time all-region first team selection, and the only player in LLCC history to receive first-team All-America honors. The Mackinaw, Ill., native led Dee-Mack High School to three conference championships and was a member of Illini Elite Volleyball Club.

"Emily has been a great addition to our team this spring and has already made an impact in our gym," stated Myers. "She is athletic with solid ball control skills and a great touch. We're excited to see her take her game to the next level."

Montgomery intends to major in psychology, and Orrick will pursue a degree in recreation management.
