NORMAL, Ill. - Despite Shannon McGlaughlin's 12 kills and .367 hitting percentage, the Illinois State volleyball team lost in three-straight sets to Wichita State (25-20, 25-19, 25-20) Friday night on Doug Collins Court at Redbirds Arena. The Redbirds fall to 17-12 overall and 9-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while the Shockers improve to 18-11 and 10-7 in the MVC.

Although McGlaughlin was the only Redbird to reach double-digit kills, Tabitha Visk was close-behind with nine. Jenny Menendez had 17 digs to lead ISU, and Kristin Stauter was credited with 35 assists. Three Wichita State players tallied double-digit kills, including Emily Adney (16), Ashley Andrade (11) and Camri Zwiesler (10). Zwiesler had the loan double-double of the match with 16 digs along with her 10 kills. Mary Elizabeth Hooper earned a match-high 39 assists.

Illinois State fell behind early in the first set, but scored three-consecutive points to take a 4-3 lead. Although Wichita State regained the advantage, ISU scored five-straight points to take a 13-10 lead. Wichita State answered with a 4-0 run to go ahead 19-18. The Shockers ultimately won the set, 25-20, thanks to a final 5-0 run. McGlaughlin led the Redbirds with five kills in the first set, and Menendez and Stauter each had six digs. Adney led the Shockers with four first-set kills.

ISU again trailed to start the second set, with Wichita State building an 8-6 lead on five-unanswered points. Later in the set, Wichita State scored five more continuous points to extend its advantage to 16-12. The Shockers scored three-consecutive points to win the second set 25-19. Adney again led Wichita State with seven kills. Emily Schneider topped ISU with three kills and Stauter tallied four digs.

McGlaughlin topped the Redbird attack in the third set with six kills and Menendez had nine digs, but Illinois State lost the decisive set, 25-20. Adney was Wichita State's leading scorer with five kills. The Redbirds never led in the third frame, although ISU managed to tie the score three times. However, Wichita State pulled away late to secure the match-victory.

The Redbirds play their final regular-season match Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against Missouri State. Illinois State will begin competition at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament next Thursday, Nov. 24, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
