Illinois State tied the set 10-10 and was able to stay within two points until a Redbird service error gave the Sycamores their biggest lead of the set (20-17). Shannon McGlaughlin and Kristin Stauter fired off two more Redbird kills, but the set concluded with an Illinois State service error for a 25-22 Indiana State victory.

After the break the Redbirds came out with a second wind and hammered four kills in the first five points. Illinois State controlled the start of the third set, but the Sycamores were able to tie the set 10-10 with a service ace from Loni Mackinson and the help of two Illinois State service errors. Kelsey Holman made her first appearance of the match and notched a cross-court kill to regain the Redbird lead. Illinois State maintained its lead until Stacy Qualizza took over in the final five points. Qualizza posted two kills and two blocks in the closing points to finish the set 25-23.
