DES MOINES, Iowa. - The Illinois State volleyball team (15-10, 9-6 MVC) defeated Drake (4-22, 3-12 MVC) in straight sets, 25-21, 25-23, 25-10 Friday night. The team was led by Brooklyn Hlafka with 11 kills and Jenny Menendez with 20 digs. Kaitlyn Early recorded 28 assists and Ashley Rosch added 10 kills. It was the fifth sweep for the Redbirds during Missouri Valley Conference play.

The Redbirds jumped out to a three-point lead early in the first set with two-consecutive kills from Rosch and an ISU block, but allowed Drake to earn the next five points, 9-7. The Bulldogs put together an additional three-point string to press ahead 14-9 Illinois State started to find a rhythm and tied the set at 17-17 with a kill and a service ace from LeighAnn Hranka. Three-straight kills from Hlafka closed the set 25-21 for a Redbird victory.

In the second set, both teams traded points until Illinois State was able to tally two points with kills from Rosch and Hranka, 12-10. Drake answered right back with two-consecutive blocks and tied the set 12-12. With Menendez at the service line, the Redbirds put together a six-point run with two aces from Menendez, 19-14. Illinois State maintained the momentum throughout the rest of the set for a 25-23 win.

Illinois State took control after the break, taking an6-1 lead with kills from Rosch and a block from Early and Emily Schneider. The Redbirds earned the next eight points and extended their lead 15-3. Drake was able to tally two-consecutive points with kills from Jadranka Tramoslijanin. Eliza Smith entered the lineup for ISU and posted two kills in four points to help Illinois State end the match 25-10.
