NORMAL, Ill. - For the second time this season, the Illinois State volleyball team swept Drake. The Redbirds beat the Bulldogs, 25-14, 25-20 and 25-23, Friday night on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.

ISU (15-9, 7-5 Missouri Valley Conference) was led by Shannon McGlaughlin, who registered a team-best 11 kills and 13 digs. Jenny Menendez also added 13 digs, and Kristin Stauter topped ISU with 27 assists. Drake (9-17, 5-7 MVC) was led by Whitney Westrum, who finished with 12 kills. Drake's Sarah Madden tallied 16 digs. Illinois State outhit Drake in the match, .215-to-.091.

After falling behind, 2-0, to begin the first set, the Redbirds answered with a 6-to-1 run and never relinquished the lead on their way to a 25-14 first-set victory. Illinois State was led in the first frame by LeighAnn Hranka's five kills, and .834 hitting percentage. Laura Wakefield and McGlaughlin registered four digs each in the Redbirds' first-set victory, which was capped off by a final 3-to-0 run. ISU finished the first set with a .375 hitting percentage compared to Drake's .111. The Bulldogs were led by Westrum who finished the first set with four kills.

In a much closer second set, that saw four tie scores and one lead change, Illinois State came won, 25-20. Drake pulled within one point at 20-19, before the Redbirds' went on a 5-to-1 run to finish the set. \McGlaughlin once again led Illinois State with four kills in the second in addition to five digs. Menendez also had five digs in the second-set effort. Drake was again led by Westrum, who notched another four kills in the set, as well as Madden, who had six digs.

In the tightly contested third, Illinois State trailed, 20-17, before climbing back to earn a 25-23 victory. The Redbirds were able to score the final three points of the set to secure the three-set win. McGlaughlin and Hranka each recorded four kills in the final set, with Menendez registering seven digs.

The Redbirds, who have won six-of-their-last-seven matches remain at home for another MVC matchup against Creighton Saturday night at 7:05.
