Redbirds Finish Undefeated at Rocket Classic

TOLEDO, Ohio. - The Illinois State (6-4) volleyball team recorded 12 total team blocks to soar past Memphis (7-3) 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 to win the 2012 Rocket Classic Saturday night. LeighAnn Hranka was named the tournament Most Valuable Player and Ashley Rosch and Kaitlyn Early earned all-tournament honors.

Rosch led the team with 10 kills and 9 digs, Brooklyn Hlafka posted nine kills and five block-assists and Stacey Niao recorded eight kills. Jenny Menendez tallied 11 digs, Sierra Burris recorded nine digs and Early compiled 28 assists and six digs.

Memphis was led by Altrese Hawkins with 12 kills, Maja Kostic added seven kills and Jaden Louie posted 26 assists. The Redbirds out-blocked the Tigers by six blocks and finished with a .220 team hitting percentage compared to the Tiger's .117. ISU had four players tally four or more kills in the match.
