Illinois State head volleyball coach Melissa Myers has announced the hiring of Eric Plunkett as an assistant coach
Eric Plunkett joined Illinois State as an assistant coach in May 2012. Plunkett brings coaching experience at various levels of men's and women's volleyball at the high school, collegiate and club levels.
Plunkett served as a volunteer assistant during the 2011 season at Mississippi in Oxford, Miss. His responsibilities with the Rebels included assisting with practices, scouting and recruiting procedures and potential recruit evaluations.
Prior to joining Illinois State, Plunkett served as the men's volleyball assistant coach at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. In his two year stint, he helped Clarke produce its first NAIA All-American. Plunkett organized recruiting efforts for the Crusaders, facilitated fundraising for club tournaments and gained a wide range of experience with responsibility of designing and instructing practices.
He has expanded his coaching efforts by instructing the Stingray Volleyball Club in California and leading the girls 15-1s premier team to qualify for the Junior Olympics with a fifth place finish. From that team, he produced an all-tournament selection at the Junior Olympics and a 2012 Under Armor All-American.
Plunkett, who graduated from California Baptist with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, played four seasons of college volleyball. He was a three-time NAIA national champion and a two-time NAIA all-tournament selection at California Baptist. He started for three seasons as a setter and captained the team his senior year.
