NORMAL, Ill. - This weekend, the Illinois State women's tennis team travels to St. Louis, Mo. to compete in the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships hosted by Southern Illinois.
Joining Illinois State at the Valley Championships are Drake, Bradley, Northern Iowa, Evansville, Southern Illinois and Wichita State.
The MVC Tournament will include blind draws for the singles portion, which will make for an interesting weekend of play. Top competitors include SIU, WSU and DU. But after playing well in singles last weekend at the UNI Invite, head coach Chris Hoover feels confident the Redbirds know what they need to do to be successful at the Individual Championships.
"We've made some strides in the past couple of weekends," Hoover said. "I think we've got a good badge of women ready to go this week. We're excited to play." In doubles competition only the top 1-3 teams were taken from each school. For ISU this includes pairs: Phyllis Tigges and Sierra Stone, Madeliene Baillon and Heather Nisbet, and Emmie Marx and Kadi Ilves.
Competition will run through Sunday and begin at 9 a.m. each day.
