NORMAL, Ill.-This weekend the Illinois State women's tennis team is hosting the annual Redbird Round-up. The Redbird Roundup marks the first home event for the team in the fall season.

The teams competing are Bradley, Butler, Dayton, Drake, Illinois State, Morehead State, and St. Louis. Play begins Friday morning at 10 a.m., at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts in Normal, Ill.

The competition will consist of three flights of singles and two flights of doubles. Play will begin each morning at 10 a.m., following warm-ups.

Doubles will be played first with the finals being played out on Sunday. If the weather is poor, play will be moved to indoor facilities at the Evergreen Racquet Club.

The Redbirds enter their tournament confident with an overall record of 15-9 in singles play and 7-5 in doubles after a good showing at Ball State last weekend. The Ball State Invitational was the team's first competition of the fall season. Head coach Chris Hoover is pleased with the way the team performed at Ball State and is excited to show the home town crowd just what his team can do.

"We are pretty excited to have done so well at Ball State, picking up some great wins," Hoover said. "The team is fired up to play at home in front of our own crowd. I have a good feeling about this weekend, and the student-athletes hearts are in it to win it. We are ready to build upon last weekend's successes and move forward."

At the Ball State invitational, Emmie Marx was able to take second place in the singles top flight while Heather Nisbet and Stefanie Youngberg were able to take second place as well in doubles. In addition, the team as a whole performed well with nearly everyone winning at least one match.

Senior Ariane Maack, who did not compete at the Ball State Invitational, will be participating in doubles play at the competition this weekend.
