MUNCIE, Ind. - The Redbirds open the 2013-14 season this weekend at the Ball State Invitational, Sept 20-22. In addition to Ball State, the Redbirds will compete against Arkansas State, Butler, Chicago State, Cleveland State, Eastern Kentucky, IUPUI, Miami (Ohio), Notre Dame, Valparaiso and Wright State.

Gameplay will begin at 8 a.m. CT on Friday, with one doubles and two singles matches, and conclude on Sunday. On Saturday, two doubles matches and one singles competition will open the day's events. Sunday will include both the doubles and singles final rounds.

Head coach, Chris Hoover, is excited for the squad to begin playing again and to see how the team competes this year against schools in the region.

"We've got a couple of new additions this year, Sierra Stone and Maddie Baillon, who are helping us a lot in doubles, which has given us a lot of options in our doubles lineup for these tournaments," Hoover said. "So we're going to mix and mingle some doubles this weekend and hopefully get a real good competitive look at some doubles pairing."

The Redbirds finished the 2012-13 season with an overall record of 10-13 and a Missouri Valley Conference mark of 4-3.

Nearly the whole squad from last season returns again, including five seniors: Carolina Abello, Ashton Nisbet, Gabby Phillips, Heather Nisbet and Phyllis Tigges. Sophomore Kadi Ilves and junior Emmie Marx also return for their second and third season. Freshmen Baillon and Stone also join the action this weekend for their first collegiate appearances.
