COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Illinois State women's tennis team is ready for its second tournament this weekend at the University of Missouri. The tournament will begin on Friday and end on Sunday. After a great run at the Saint Louis Invite, the `Birds are ready for more competitive matches to show case the best of their abilities on the court.

"We are not really focused on outcome goals in this tournament. We are focused on performance based goals which show the best of our abilities," said head coach Chris Hoover.

In the last tournament, the `Birds took away two championship titles; one for doubles and one for singles. Katri Miller earned the Flight A singles title and Michelle Rabinovich and Megan Rozboril won the Flight B doubles crown. Hoover and the team believe that if they keep competing hard like they did at Saint Louis, only more wins are to come for the Redbirds.

For Hoover and his players, the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Individual championships are what they are working for. The Redbirds go into each tournament working to prepare themselves for the upcoming individual championships so they can achieve the most in their matches.

"We need to keep competing really hard, and keep the momentum so the Valley individuals will be successful for us," said Hoover.

Hoover believes that all of his Redbirds are accomplished players and will do their best at this upcoming tournament. He also emphasizes that this tournament will be about more than just winning the whole tournament.

"I am not concerned with winning or losing. I'm just concerned with the amount of matches the players are in and how they perform."

Once again, the Redbirds will be competing against Saint Louis and host Missouri.
