WICHITA, Kan.- The Illinois State women's tennis team (9-12, 4-3 MVC) will travel to participate in the Missouri Valley Team Championships, beginning with a quarterfinal match against Evansville, Friday, April 25, in Wichita, Kan.

The Redbirds head into the MVC Team Championships as a four seed after going 1-1 during the final weekend of their conference season. The team was able to edge out Northern Iowa, 6-1, but was stopped short by Drake in a match that came down to the wire. The Redbirds ultimately dropped the match to the now third-seeded Bulldogs, 4-3.

The Redbirds will first take on five-seeded Evansville (10-10, 3-4 MVC) on Friday April 25 at 9 a.m. at the Crestview Tennis Courts in Wichita, Kan. Evansville enters the tournament with some momentum, finishing the season with a conference win over Creighton, 6-1, at Evansville. In their last meeting with the Purple Aces, the Redbirds won the match, 5-2, at Evansville on April 7.

This year, the MVC Team Championships will be hosted by defending champion, Wichita State (12-10, 7-0 MVC). Wichita State is the top seed in the tournament and holds a perfect record in conference play. Over the last three years, the Redbirds and the Shockers have met three times in the final match of the MVC Team Championships, and the Redbirds have finished runner-up each time. At their last meeting on April 13, the Redbirds fell to the Shockers, 5-2, at Wichita State.

Competition at the MVC Team Championships will take place on April 26 and 27 with the finals being played on Sunday April 28. Play will begin in the morning and will continue all day.
