Miller and Zubkova Selected for the MVC All-Select Team

OMAHA, Neb. - Illinois State women's tennis senior Katri Miller and sophomore Julia Zubkova were named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Select Team, as announced at the annual awards banquet that began the 2008 State Farm MVC Championships on Thursday night in Omaha, Neb. The student-athletes received this honor after a successful season in the top two positions in the Redbird lineup. Miller has received this honor for three-consecutive seasons, while it is Zubkova's first.

Miller finished the regular season with a singles record of 19-16 including a 5-3 MVC mark at the No. 1 spot. The Tallinn, Estonia, native also had success at the No. 1 doubles spot with senior partner Véronique Parke-Bédard going 5-1 in the MVC. Overall, Miller was 16-13 in regular season doubles.

Zubkova led the team during the regular season earning a 25-9 singles record including a 7-1 Valley record. The Tallinn, Estonia, native also won the last eight of 10 matches, in the No. 2 position. In doubles, Zubkova held a 13-16 mark with senior partner Carolyne Parent.

Miller and Zubkova are joined on the All-Select team by Drake's Veronika Leszayova, Sabine Tsala Mvilongo of Southern Illinois, Evansville's Kate Chybowski, and Stephanie Dalmacio of Wichita State. Miller earned wins against Leszayova and Tsala Mvilongo, while Zubkova defeated Chybowski during the regular season.

Zubkova and Miller return to action on Saturday as they lead the Redbirds against No. 2 Wichita State in the semifinals of the MVC Championship. First serve between the `Birds and Shockers is slated for 2 p.m.
