NORMAL, Ill.-The Illinois State Women's tennis team (8-10, 3-1 MVC) will travel to take on the Wichita State Shockers (8-10, 3-0 MVC) on Saturday, April 13 in Wichita, Kan.

Wichita State is the defending Missouri Valley Conference Champion and is undefeated in the MVC this year, topping conference opponents UNI, Drake, and Creighton.

The two teams have met each other with fierce competition in the last several meetings with Illinois State finishing runner-up to the Shockers for three consecutive years in the Missouri Valley Conference Team Championships.

"This is the team that owns the title. If we want a Missouri Valley championship, we are going to have to go through Wichita State one way or the other," head Coach Chris Hoover said. "The Shockers are a good group, it should be a good match and I hope that we can rise to meet the challenge."

The Redbirds last competed at Evansville on April 4, winning the match, 5-2.The win was important for the Redbirds this season who are just 4-9 on the road in the spring. The Redbirds dropped their only conference loss of the season in a tough match to Southern Illinois, 6-1 on April 3.

The match against the Shockers will take place at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex in Wichita, Kan. Play is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
