NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's tennis team will host Illinois-Chicago Thursday at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Ill.

The Redbirds enter this weekend after traveling to Memphis, Tenn., where they took down Detroit-Mercy Friday, 6-1, playing some of the best singles matches of the year. ISU also took on Memphis, Saturday, but fell, 6-1, bringing its overall record on the season to 4-5.

The Flames are no stranger to Illinois State, as the two teams have competed against each other 12 times, with the Redbirds leading the series 10-2. The two teams last met April 21, 2009, where junior Hannah Esker contributed to the Redbirds 6-1 victory with a win at the No. 5 position.

Head coach Chris Hoover thinks Thursday's match is going to be a real challenge for his team.

"We're excited to play," said Hoover. "It is always tough after a loss to get back into the swing of things, but UIC is a good team and we are really going to have our hands full with them. It is going to be a tough match for everyone.

The match is set to begin Thursday at 12 p.m. CDT, at the Evergreen Racquet Club. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
