BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-After competing in five road matches over the last two weeks, the Illinois State Women's tennis team (5-4, 1-0 MVC) now prepares to compete at home and will take on the Illinois-Chicago Flames on Saturday, March, 2.

Over the course of the last two weeks, the Redbirds have been on the road, participating in five matches over two states and three cities. The team finished its first major test on the road with three losses; however, the team was able to defeat Creighton to seize its first conference win of the season as well as Colorado State who defeated the Redbirds handily in the spring of 2012.

Two of those losses came last weekend in El Paso, Texas at the hands of UTEP Miners and the Lamar Cardinals. Head coach Chris Hoover feels those may have been viable wins for his team and also a sense of urgency to get his team back on the court.

"We need to get back playing. The most important thing for me is for us to get right back at it," Hoover said. We had a little bit of a letdown last weekend in El Paso (Texas) so I am anxious to see how we respond and how we will come out and compete."

The Flames come into the competition against the Redbirds riding the momentum of a five game winning streak that began on Sunday, Feb. 3 when the Flames toppled Chicago in a shutout victory, 7-0. The only loss for Illinois-Chicago in the spring season came in the season opener to Marquette, who defeated the Flames, 6-1 on Friday, Feb. 1.

The match against Illinois-Chicago will take place at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Ill. Competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT. Next weekend, the team will hit the road once more, traveling to New Orleans, La. to compete against New Orleans, Tulane, and Mcneese State.
