Redbirds Fight the Flames at UIC

Feb. 23, 2012

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State women's tennis (3-4) heads back to the courts on Saturday to compete in Chicago against UIC. The Redbirds are 2-3 against the Flames.

UIC leads the series against ISU, winning the most recent two match-ups, both times downing the Redbirds 5-2.

"They're very tough obviously," said head coach Chris Hoover. "We have a very tough schedule and UIC is one of the teams that are always very difficult. We've had some success against them in the past, but not recently. I'm anxious to see how we come out."

The Redbirds are returning from a win against St. Louis, where the team beat the previously undefeated Billikens, 4-3. Illinois State swept doubles, adding new pairings to the lineup, and won three out of six singles matches at the No. 2, 3 and 6 flights.

"We learned some things this last weekend," said Hoover. "Hopefully, if we take it in and continue to build on previous matches, we';; be able to put up a great fight. I know the team will be very competitive."

Play is set to begin on Bally's Hyde Park on Feb. 25 to take on Illinois State at 1 p.m. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
