Redbirds Prepare for UTEP and Lamar in El Paso, Texas

NORMAL, Ill.-The Illinois State Women's tennis team (5-2, 1-0 MVC) is prepared for another long weekend of competition as it is set to take on UTEP on Friday, Feb. 22 and Lamar on Saturday, Feb. 23 in El Paso, Texas.

Last weekend, the team participated in a full weekend of competitions on the road, playing matches on Friday and Saturday against No.15 Nebraska and Colorado State in Lincoln, Neb. as well as conference rival Creighton on Sunday in Omaha, Neb.

The team lost a tough match to Nebraska, 6-1 but was able to bounce back on Saturday, Feb. 16, to defeat Colorado State, 5-1 as well as Creighton, 6-1 on Sunday, Feb. 17. The match against Creighton marked the first conference competition for the Redbirds this season.

This weekend, the team will first take on UTEP on Friday, Feb. 22. The UTEP Miners have struggled since finding success in the opening match of their season with a shutout victory over Dominican, 7-0. Currently, the Miners are riding a four match losing streak, all of which were decided by one point. The Miners currently hold a record of, 3-6.

Next, the team will battle the Lamar Cardinals on Saturday, Feb. 23. The Cardinal's season began in Houston, Texas where they were served two consecutive losses against Rice, 6-1 and Arkansas, 7-0. Most recently, the Cardinals decisively defeated Louisiana in their home opener, 6-1. The Cardinals currently hold a record of, 2-3.



The match against UTEP will take place at the El Paso Tennis Club with play set to begin at 2 p.m. CT. The match against Lamar will also take place at the El Paso Tennis Club with play set to begin the following morning at 9 p.m. CT.
