Redbirds Set to Take on IUPUI at Evergreen Racquet Club

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-The Illinois State women's tennis team is set to face off against the IUPUI Jaguars on Friday, Feb. 8, marking the third consecutive home match for the Redbirds.

Last weekend, the team seized two victories topping Butler, 6-1 on Friday, Feb. 1, and Eastern Illinois, 5-2 on Sunday, Feb. 3. Against Eastern, the Redbirds put on a great display of depth. After losing both No.1 and No. 2 singles, the team did not concede another loss and went on to win.

The team has played consistently in doubles as well as singles taking the point against both Butler and Eastern. Doubles duo Emmie Marx and Kadi Ilves remain unbeaten after two matches having defeated Stephanie McLoughlin and Konstantina Adami of Butler, 8-2 as well as Merritt Whitley and Janelle Prisner of Eastern Illinois, 8-2.

IUPUI has played more matches than Illinois State in the spring and currently holds a team record of 1-5. Most recently, IUPUI split a pair of matches defeating UW-Green Bay, 5-2 on Saturday, Feb. 2, before losing to Chicago State, 3-4 on Sunday Feb. 3. In the loss to Chicago State, IUPUI's Abbey Neff was injured.

The match against IUPUI will take place at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Ill. with competition set to begin at 7 p.m. CT.

 

 

Next, the team will travel to Lincoln Neb. to take on the Nebraska Corn Huskers on Friday, Feb. 15. with play set to begin at 4 p.m. CT. The team will remain in Lincoln, Neb. for another match Saturday, Feb. 16 against Colorado State before traveling to Omaha, Neb. to take on Creighton on Sunday, Feb. 17.
