Redbirds Return Home to Take on Butler and EIU

Follow @ISURedbirds Tweet #ISUATH NORMAL, Ill.-The Illinois State women's tennis team prepares for a tough weekend at home as the Redbirds are set to compete against Butler on Friday, Feb. 1, as well as Eastern Illinois on Sunday, Feb. 3.
The team opened the spring season against No. 24 Illinois on Jan. 18, in Urbana, Ill. Although the Redbirds were not able to defeat the Illini, Redbird freshman Kadi Ilves was able to defeat Julia Jamieson 6-2, 6-3.
After a week off from competition, head coach Chris Hoover is ready to get back to the action.
"Both myself and the student-athletes are excited and ready to start playing again," Hoover said. "Several of the players such as Emmie (Marx), Stefanie (Youngberg) and Kadi have really been bringing it at practice. We are getting better every day and with a deep roster we are excited to get started."
Now the team is set to take on Butler, marking the first home match for the Redbirds of the spring season. Butler comes into the competition having lost two previous matches to Western Michigan, 6-1 and No. 50 Indiana, 7-0.
"Butler is usually a scrappy team and this year I think they will be a tough match up for us. We will have to come ready to play," Hoover said.
Next, the team will remain at home to take on instate rival Eastern Illinois. The Panthers will travel to take on the Redbirds riding the momentum of a victory against Evansville 4-3. Eastern Illinois is led in singles victories by Janelle Prisner with an overall record of 12-7.
The match against Butler on Friday, Feb. 1, will take place at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Ill with play beginning at 7 pm CT. The match against Eastern Illinois Feb. 3, will also take place at the Evergreen Racquet Club. Play against the Panthers will begin at 1 pm CT.
Next, the Redbirds remain at home for a third match against IUPUI on Feb. 8 at the Evergreen Racquet Club with play set to begin at 7 pm CT.
