Marx Returns From the ITA Regional's Main Draw with a Win and a Loss

Champaign, Ill.-Emmie Marx of the Illinois State women's tennis team wrapped up play in the main draw of the ITA Regional Tournament on Saturday with one win and one loss.

In the first round of the main draw, Marx defeated Olga Shkuhdina of Akron in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 7-5. Marx went on to play Allison Falkin of Illinois in the quarter finals, but was defeated 6-0, 6-1. Assistant Coach Cami Hubbs is pleased with the results of the compatition.

"This weekend was a very successful one overall for Emmie and the Redbirds," Hubbs said. "It is always good when our student-athletes get a chance to play against the top schools in the region."

In Friday at qualifying, Marx battled to secure two wins in order to earn a place in the main draw. In the first match, Marx handily defeated Juliane Gruber of Michigan State 6-3, 6-0. In the second match, Marx defeated Kara Cecil of Ohio State 6-3, 7-6(4).

"Emmie got two good wins under her belt, each player at this tournament was tough so we tried to take things one match at a time," Hubbs said. "Over all this was a great end to a tough fall schedule and we can't wait for the dual match season to begin in January!"
