Champaign, Ill.-Emmie Marx of the Illinois State women's tennis team earned a bid into the main draw of the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament after winning both of her singles matches on Friday in the qualifying rounds.

With a first round bye, Marx advanced to the second round of qualifying on Friday and defeated Jullane Gruber of Michigan State 6-3, 6-0. Marx went on to defeat Kara Cecil of Ohio State 6-3, 7-6(4), ultimately earning a place in the main draw of the bracket.

Marx competes again against Olga Shkuihdina of Akron at 12:45 p.m. Sunday. If Marx wins, she will advance to face Allison Falkin of Illinois at 4 p.m.

If Marx is able to win both matches today, she will continue play on Sunday in the semi final round.

This season, Marx started off the season playing relentless tennis, and holds notable in wins in several tournaments. Marx played especially well in both the Ball State Invitational and the Redbird Round Up in September, securing first and second place victories in the top flight.

At the DePaul Invitational, Marx did not fare as well, falling short of the winning precedent set for herself earlier in the season. Most recently, Marx competed at the MVC Individuals Championships. After advancing to the semi finals on day one of the competition, Marx finished fourth in her flight.
