Redbirds Continue Singles Success at Second Day of MVC Individuals

Wichita Kan.-The Illinois State women's tennis team continued to have success in singles play at the second day of the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships in Wichita, Kan.

The team played six singles semi-final matches on Saturday, winning all but two. On Sunday, the finals matches will be played and four Redbirds will have the opportunity to bring home singles titles. Matching Illinois State with four, only Wichita State had as many players advance to the finals. In three finals matches to be played on Sunday, Illinois State and Wichita State will be facing off against one another.

In flight two singles, Phyllis Tigges came out on top in a semi-final matchup against Natasha James of Evansville winning (6-7, 7-5, 7-5). Tigges advances to face Lucia Kovalova of Wichita State in the finals. In flight four singles, Kadi Ilves defeated Jennifer Dien of Southern Illinois (6-3, 6-4). Ilves advances to face Rebecca Pedrazzi of Wichita State in the finals. Finally, in flight five singles, Stefanie Youngberg defeated Merideth McDonagh of Bradley (6-1, 6-0). Youngberg advances to face Satjaporn Moahajareonkul of Wichita State in the finals.



Still in singles, Carolina Abello defeated Nell Boyd of Drake (6-2, 6-0). Abello also advances to the finals Sundaty and will face Natasha Tomishima of Southern Illinois.

Additionally, Emmie Marx played hard in the flight one semi-finals match but fell to Klavdija Rebol of Drake (3-6, 6-4, 6-1). Marx will play Jennie Hartjes of Creighton on Sunday in the third place match. Gabby Phillips, who lost in the semi-finals as well, moves on to face Anastacia Simmons of Southern Illinois in the third place match of flight six on Sunday.

Also, Heather Nisbet battled back today after losing the opening match in flight seven singles defeating Amanda Noonan of Creighton (3-6, 6-1, 10-5), earning a place in the consolation finals on Sunday against Summer Schlotterback of Wichita State.
