Women's Tennis Advances Five Singles Players to Finals at UNI Invite

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Illinois State women's tennis team finishes day two at Northern Iowa with five singles players to compete in the finals on Sunday, and one doubles pair advancing to the finals in doubles.

After a late start due to a rain delay, the tournament moved indoors to the Black Hawk Tennis club early in the day.

In singles play, Phyllis Tigges advanced into the finals match after defeating South Dakota's Rymma Maslova 6-1, 6-2 in Purple Singles. Emmie Marx advanced into the finals over Bradley's Ashley Thai 6-1, 6-3, and will face Upper Iowa's Saki Krawabata on Sunday in the finals Gold Singles. Kadi Ilves advanced into the finals over Northen Iowa's Krissy Lankelma 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (2), and will compete against Iowa State's Meghan Cassens in Panthers Singles finals.

Gabby Phillips advanced into the Campanile Singles finals match after defeating Upper Iowa's Laura Alvarez 6-0, 6-0, and will face South Dakota's Ana Vujosevic Sunday in the finals. Freshman Maddie Baillon advanced into the UNI Singles finals round over Saint Louis' Madeline Jolly 6-3, 6-2, and will face Iowa State's Lydia Green tomorrow in th final match.



In doubles play, Baillon and Heather Nisbet advanced into the Gold Doubles final after defeating Drake's Mariel Ante and Maddie Johnson 8-1. Baillon and Nisbet face Saint Louis' Aspen Cervin and Jolly in the Gold Doubles final Sunday.

The third and final day of the tournament begins at Byrnes Park in Waterloo, Sunday at 9 a.m.
