OMAHA, Neb. - The Illinois State women's tennis defeated Missouri Valley Conference rival, No.2 Drake in semi-final action on Saturday during the State Farm MVC Championships, 4-0. The Redbirds head into the finals on Sunday, where they face No.1 seed, Wichita State.

In regular conference play, Drake defeated the Redbirds, 6-1, handing ISU the first loss of MVC play.

Illinois State doubles set the tone of the match, after Redbird pairings downed DU in long-fought matches in the top two flights. Aniko Kiss and Emmie Marx defeated Gabriela Demos and Manca Krizman, 8-6, in the first position, and Phyllis Tigges and Ariane Maack bested Klavdija Rebol and Jessica Aguilera, 8-6, in the second.

Building upon the momentum, the Redbirds secured the next three consecutive points. Kiss posted the first win, downing fellow MVC All-Conference All-Select teammate at No.1, Manca Krizman, 6-3, 6-3. Marx followed, 6-1, 6-2, in the second, and Carolina Abello followed in the fourth, downing Nell Boyd, 6-2, 6-3. Both Kiss and Marx posted two of the four points needed to secure the victory against Creighton during play on Friday.

"Everyone played well," said head coach Chris Hoover. "The team is excited to move into the finals. This is our third year in a row where we're poised to win, so we're coming ready to play."
