Illinois State Women's Tennis Defeated by McNeese State, 5-2

NEW ORLEANS-The Illinois State women's tennis (6-7, 1-0 MVC) team was defeated by McNeese State on Wednesday, March 14, 5-2, wrapping up three consecutive days of competition for the Redbirds in the city.
The Redbirds finish the string of competitions 1-2 with a win over New Orleans on Monday as well as a loss to No.50 Tulane on Tuesday.
In doubles, the Redbirds were swept by McNeese State resulting in an early, 1-0 disadvantage for the team. Doubles play between the Redbirds and McNeese State was incredibly competitive with each match ending in a tie breaker and with the doubles portion of the competition lasting over two hours.
In singles, the fatigued Redbirds continued to battle McNeese State but were unable to win the four singles points necessary to come from behind and take the match. McNeese State defeated the Redbirds in straight sets but Illinois State made a stand at the No.2 and No.4 positions. At No.2, Phyllis Tigges fell behind early in a tough first set, but ultimately defeated Lara Pujol, 0-6, 6-2, 6-3. At No.4 singles, Kadi Ilves found success as well, defeating Andreea Nenu, 7-6(3), 1-6, 10-4.
Illinois State is back in action on Saturday, March 16, in Memphis, Tenn. where the Redbirds will take on the No.25 Memphis Tigers. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. CT.
