Redbirds Strong in Singles at First Day of MVC Individuals

The Illinois State women's tennis team opened the first day of competition at the Missouri Valley Individual Championships advancing six players in singles and one team in doubles to the semi-finals on Saturday.

Cami Hubbs is in her second year as a graduate assistant with the Illinois State women's tennis program. Previously, Hubbs assisted both the men's and women's tennis programs at Dayton after finishing her athletic career with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

At Ohio State, Hubbs set a new record for singles match wins with 36 victories as a freshman in 2007-08. Hubbs played primarily at the No. 5 position but saw a late move to the No. 4 spot that year. As a sophomore, Hubbs tied for doubles wins with 22 including a 15-11 mark in the spring season playing at the No. 2. Hubbs was moved up in the singles line-up that year as well playing as high as No. 2 in the spring where she was 2-0. As a junior, during the 2008-09 season, Hubbs entered the singles line-up late but helped earn Ohio State a first round NCAA Tournament win in doubles play. Hubbs was also named an OSU Scholar Athlete and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten that year. As a senior in 2010-11, Hubbs was named captain and won noteable matches in the Arizona State Thunderbird as well as the ITA All-American Championships.
