Nov. 16, 2011
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State senior Brittany Tazzioli was named Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week November 16, after a strong performance last weekend in a dual meet at Illinois.
Tazzioli was named MVC Diver of the week for the second time in the '11-'12 season, after scoring 271.27 on the 1-meter board against the Illini Friday. Tazzioli's performance also qualified her for a spot in the NCAA Diving Regional early March 2012.
The Libertyville, Ill., native earned a second place finish on the 1-meter board. She also competed in the 3-meter dive, scoring a 236.78, to place 6th.
"This is a great honor for Brittany, especially after her accomplishments this weekend at Illinois," head diving coach Phil Hoffmann said. "She had a solid 1-meter performance, which is tough to do on the road. Brittany showed a lot of skill and competitive drive. It will be exciting to see how she competes at the Zippy Invitational."
Already qualified, Tazzioli will end her career as a Redbird this year at the NCAA Diving Regional in Bloomington, Ind. This will be the senior team captain's first trip to the zone meet in her college diving career. Last year, Tazzioli received the 2010-11 honorable mention all-Missouri Valley Conference honors.
Freshman swimmer Cecilia Holmes was given a nod of recognition this week under notable performances in the Missouri Valley Conference. Holmes had a first place finish and a personal best time in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:25.24) against the Illini. The Bloomington, Ill., native also had a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.59).
The Zippy Invitational in Akron, Ohio December 2-4, is the next meet for the Redbird swimming and diving team.
