NORMAL, Ill. - Consistent performances have led Illinois State diver, senior Katie Janonis, to be named the Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week for the fourth straight week. Senior team captain Tracy Deyell was also named Valley Swimmer of the Week, marking the third-consecutive week that Illinois State has swept the league's weekly swimming and diving honors.

Deyell had several outstanding performances over the weekend, leading the Illinois State swimming and diving team in a close home meet against Big Ten foe Illinois. Deyell started the afternoon as the second leg in the Redbirds' 200-yard medley relay team that finished with a time of 1:52.15, a time that placed it third overall in the Valley.

Individually, Deyell finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.79. She also placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:26.40. Deyell finished first in the 200-yard individual medley event with a personal-best time of 2:11.14, placing her second overall in the Valley.

In addition to being ranked second overall in the Valley in the 200-yard individual medley, she is also currently ranked sixth in the 100-yard butterfly, fifth in the 200-yard butterfly, fourth in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke and first in the 400-yard individual medley.

ISU head swimming and diving coach Steve Paska felt that Deyell's consistency as a top-performer earned her the award this week.

"This was a well-deserved honor for Tracy," said Paska. "She is consistent in her performances and is a top point scorer for the team. She had several solid performances Saturday (Nov. 10) and set a personal-best time in the 200-yard individual medley. She is a well-rounded performer, and the recognition that she has received with this award is an accumulation of a fantastic fall campaign."

Janonis won the 3-meter board and finished second on the 1-meter board over the weekend in a dual-meet against Illinois. She led the Redbirds in the diving events against the Fighting Illini, with a final score of 230.24 on the 1-meter board and 230.70 on the 3-meter board. She currently leads the Valley on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.

Head diving coach Phil Hoffmann was happy that Janonis is the first diver in Redbird history to receive the Valley Diver of the Week honor four-consecutive times.

"I am excited that it is the first time in school history that an ISU diver has won four weeks in a row," said Hoffmann. "Katie puts a lot of hard work and dedication in the pool and it has shown with her consistent performances. It is fitting to win this week because we competed against a Big Ten, in-state opponent (Illinois).

The Illinois State swimming and diving team has three weeks off before traveling to Akron, Ohio, to compete in the Akron Invitational Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
