NORMAL, Ill. - After being rescheduled from its original date, the long awaited red/white scrimmage will be held Saturday morning at Horton Pool. The team's season started off two weeks ago with the Denis Stark Relays at Notre Dame. The following weekend, the team competed at Lindenwood and the diving team went to the University of Illinois Chicago for the UIC Diving Invitational. The red/white scrimmage gives every member on the squad a chance to showcase their individual talents, which is something head coach Steve Paska is excited to see.

"I am looking forward to watching the newcomers," Paska said. "I am looking to see where everyone is within the frame of the program. I will be able to witness first hand how they carry themselves in a competitive setting. It will be interesting to see how the large team works together."

The inter-squad scrimmage allows the individual swimmers and divers the opportunity to shine with their specific talents.

"The Akron Invitational and the Missouri Valley Conference Championship are what we are working towards," Paska said. "We are looking for steady performances and we'll go meet by meet, step by step, in order to prepare for these two important meets."

In past red/white scrimmages, bragging rights have upped the competition in the pool. The inter-squad scrimmage gives the girls a chance to become familiar, for some, or reintroduce themselves to competition. It also leaves room to have a little fun.

"I do not want to drill the girls," Paska said. "I want them to have fun and just see where they are at and where they need to go from here to be the best student-athlete."

The swimming and diving Red/White scrimmage takes place Saturday, October 29 at 8:30 a.m., located at Horton Pool.
