Zhang Named MVC Diver of the Week
Oct. 17, 2012
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State sophomore diver Wenting Zhang was named Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week Wednesday, Oct. 17. Zhang earned the award after her performance on the 1-meter board last Friday at the Dennis Stark Relays.
Zhang competed Friday evening at Notre Dame in the Dennis Stark Relays and earned a score of 307.50 on the 1-meter board. This score broke Zhang's previous school record of 291.80. At the start of the 2012-13 season, Zhang also earned first-place in both the 1-meter (285.30) and 3-meter boards (313.43) at Southern Illinois.
Zhang leads the Missouri Valley Conference on both the 1-meter and 3-meter board. Head diving coach Phil Hoffmann knows this is a tremendous honor for Zhang.
"This is always a nice honor. It is especially meaningful this week because she broke the school record while on the road against a Big East opponent," said Hoffmann. "I think this is well deserving, and I believe she has set herself up for a good season."
This is Zhang's second season with the Redbirds. During the 2011-12 season she was named MVC Diver of the Year and competed in the NCAA Zone Diving Regional.
