NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head swimming coach Steve Paska announced the addition of sophomore Lydia Ridgeway to the 2010-11 Redbird roster Thursday.

Ridgeway, a transfer from Nebraska, swam for the Huskers during the 2009-10 season. In her freshman season, she swam in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard freestyle relay, 100-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley. She is set to begin her first season with the Redbirds and will have three years of eligibility remaining at Illinois State.

Ridgeway graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep in 2009, where she competed on the swimming and water polo teams. She was an honorable-mention all-American and named her conference's swimmer of the year during her freshman season.

As the season draws near, Paska sees Ridgeway as a great asset to the team.

Paska said, "As she prepares for her first semester as a Redbird, Lydia will provide quality depth in the butterfly, freestyle, and backstroke sprint events." "The versatility that Lydia has will provide the coaching staff a variety of ways to construct the line-up. Adding a swimmer with the speed that Lydia possesses will only enhance our relays and strengthen the sprint events."

Ridgeway plans on studying criminal justice at Illinois State starting this fall. GoRedbirds.com: Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, TRC gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
