NORMAL, Ill. -The Illinois State swimming and diving team excelled in its spring academic semester and was ranked third in the nation by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The team earned a cumulative spring grade-point average (GPA) of 3.61, which also qualified the Redbirds as a Division I Scholar All-American Team.

The Scholar All-American Award is presented to a college or university's swimming and diving team that accomplished an accumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the semester. Along with a successful team GPA, nine swimmers and divers achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the semesters.

Seniors Madicyn Prouty, Tori Alland, Maureen Doyle, Kelly Healy, Danielle Schumacher, and juniors Erica Halley and Maggie Kopp were joined by sophomore Samantha Schuckles and freshman Kelly Sankson the impressive list.

Head coach Steve Paskabelieves that without the team's dedication and the academic support from the ISU staff, this milestone would not have been possible.

"I'm extremely proud of our team's impressive accomplishment of achieving a 3.61 spring semester grade-point average," Paska said. "Earning a tie for third place overall in Division I swimming and diving is truly outstanding. The team set a goal at the beginning of the semester to break the 3.41 GPA record they set during the 2012 spring semester, and they surpassed that by a significant margin. "The coaching staff would like to thank the Karin L. Bone Athletic Study Center staff and the athletic academic advisors for their continuing support of the team's motivation for excellence in the classroom."
