She broke three Illinois State school records in the 50-yard freestyle (23.52), 100-yard freestyle (50.63 ) and 200-yard freestyle (1:50.06) and they were her new personal best times. During competition this weekend Yontz was also part of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.38), 400-yard medley relay (3:49.12) and 800-yard freestyle relay (7:34.64). Yontz also helped lead the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:27.49) to second-place.

"There were other swimmers who competed well in the MVC this weekend, but man Marissa just had a special weekend at the Zippy Invitational breaking records and setting new personal best times," said head coach Steve Paska. "This was a weekend her and I will always remember. It was a fun invite to be a part of and for the team and I to be able to witness her performance sprinting in the freestyle events."

Zhang was named MVC Diver of the Week for the 11th time in her career at Illinois State. She received this recognition after breaking the Akron pool, Zippy Invitational and Illinois State records on the 3-meter board with a final score of 349.60. Zhang also earned first on 1-meter board (282.45) at the invite.

"Wenting had a great weekend at the Zippy Invitational, but her 3-Meter final was simply outstanding," said diving coach Phil Hoffman. "It was truly the best I have seen her dive during a competition in her ISU career. It is a great sign of things to come! Setting a meet, pool, and school record at the last meet of the semester is a fantastic way to finish with momentum, leading into our training period and final preparation for the Missouri Valley Conference meet and NCAA Zones.

The Redbirds will travel to San Juan Puerto Rico for their next competition at the Copa Coqui Invitational Sunday, Jan. 5 at 8 am.
