Head coach Steve Paska is pleased with the performance the team had at their first competition in both the 1650-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM.
"This was a solid first meet for Illinois State swimming," said Paska. "The team has been preparing properly for the meet and it was a great way to mix training and racing for them. It really gave the distance swimmers a chance in the spotlight and I was impressed with all of the swimmers who competed in the 1650-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM. They swam both events with only a 20 or 40 minute break in between. We are definitely headed in the right direction, and this competition gave swimmers the chance to see their benchmark and where they can start improving."
The Redbirds will compete again today, Saturday, September 28, in the open-water 5K at Little Grassy Lake in Makanda, Ill. meeting at 10 a.m.
