Zhang Finishes Last Day at NCAA Diving Regionals

West Lafayette, Ind. - Sophomore diver Wenting Zhang finished at the NCAA Diving Zone Regionals Friday on the 1-meter board at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
Zhang finished in fifth-place on the 1-meter board with a score of 286.25.Zhang missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships by 4.25 points, which puts an end to the divers season. Zhang is coming off of a seventh-place finish Thursday on the 3-meter board.
"Wenting finishing in fifth-place is something I am very proud of. This was a great accomplishment, and we entered this meet just wanting her to do her best," diving coach Phil Hoffmann said. "I believe she performed very well. This weekend shows that there are great things to come for her, and she showed that she is a top level diver."
The China native had a successful sophomore year earning Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week eight times, MVC Diver of the Year and holds the conference title on the 1-meter board. She also qualified for the Zone meet multiple times throughout the season.
"This weekend helped solidified a great way to end Wenting's sophomore year. I look forward to the next two years because great things are to come," Hoffmann said.
This weekend marks the end of the regular and post-season competition for the Redbird swimming and diving team. The rest of the team finished the 2012-13 season at the MVC Championships, where they finished in second-place.
