Phil Hoffmann, a 2007 Ohio State graduate, enters his second season as Redbird diving coach. Hoffmann is a Bloomington-Normal native and a former Illinois State student assistant coach from 1999-2004.
While at Ohio State, Hoffmann was an assistant with the U.S. Elite Diving Academy under former ISU coach Drew Johansen and Hoffmann also worked under three-time
Olympic coach Vince Panzano.
Hoffmann worked with 2008 Olympian Kelci Bryant in her formative years. He has coached with countless Junior and Senior National Champions. During the 2007-08 season he led Katie Janonis to the Missouri Valley Conference 1-meter championship.
Head coach Steve Paska is excited to have Hoffmann on his coaching staff.
"Phil brings a youthful exuberance to the diving program," Paska said. "His love of the sport, ISU and the town of Bloomington-Normal shows in his coaching style and enthusiasm for the team. He brings stability and will have a positive impact on the diving program for many years to come."
Hoffmann and wife Kristy were married Aug. 11, 2007. The couple resides in Normal.
