The Illinois State diving team broke many personal and season-best performances this weekend at the UIC Diving Invite Saturday.
Phil Hoffmann, a 2007 Ohio State graduate, has served as the Redbird diving coach since the beginning of the 2007-08 season. Hoffmann is a Bloomington-Normal native and a former Illinois State student assistant coach from 1999-2004.
At the conclusion of the 2008-09 championships, diver Katelyn Prorok was named the Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Year and Hoffmann was also honored as the Valley Diving Coach of the Year.
While at Ohio State, Hoffmann was an assistant with the U.S. Elite Diving Academy under former ISU coach Drew Johansen, and Hoffmann also worked under three-time Olympic coach Vince Panzano.
Hoffmann worked with 2008 Olympian Kelci Bryant in her formative years. He has coached countless Junior and Senior National Champions. During the 2007-08 season he led Katie Janonis to the Valley 1-meter championship.
Head coach Steve Paska continues to express his excitement of having Hoffmann on his coaching staff.
"Phil brings a youthful exuberance to the diving program," Paska said. "His love of the sport, ISU and Bloomington-Normal shows in his coaching style and enthusiasm for the team. He brings stability and will have a positive impact on the diving program for many years to come."
Hoffmann and wife Kristy were married Aug. 11, 2007. The couple resides in Normal, Ill.
