Alison Cipri, a 2005 Illinois State graduate, joins the Redbirds as the head diving coach this season. Cipri will be coaching for her first time at the collegiate level.
Cipri, a former Redbird diver, returns to Illinois State after a year away from the sport of diving. While at Illinois State, Cipri served as a captain for the divers in her junior and senior years, continually shattered her personal bests and was the recipient of the Rebecca Wade Award, an accolade given to the team member who exemplified perseverance and dedication to the sport of swimming as well as to the team.
Head swimming coach Steve Paska is eager to add Cipri to the coaching staff.
"Alison comes with a background that will lead to quick success for the divers," said Paska. "I'm very excited to have Alison as the new diving coach at Illinois State. In my 21 years here, I would rank her as one of the student-athletes I enjoyed working with the most simply because of the values she kept for herself academically, socially and athletically."
Being familiar with the Redbird diving program, Cipri finds herself full of anticipation for the upcoming season.
"I may not be like the diving coaches the girls have had in the past, but I know and love the sport of diving," said Cipri. "I hope my passion will drive the ladies to reach the goals they wish to achieve this season."
